How do domain names work?
Domain names (such as example.com) are linked to one or more IP addresses. An IP address is a string of numbers such as "160.234.5.43". Each of these addresses represents a server where content for that site is located. When someone types your domain name into their browser the IP address is used to point visitors to your site. Domain names are used instead of IP addresses because they are easier to remember.
